American Military Executes Lethal Strike in Eastern Pacific, Resulting in Four Fatalities
According to a high-ranking military official, the US military executed a lethal strike on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, killing four people.
“A US joint task force conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by a terrorist group in international waters. Intelligence verified the vessel was traveling along a known narco-trafficking route and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. A total of four male narco-terrorists were killed, and no US military forces were injured.”
Background and Recent Strikes
This announcement follows a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil profits to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, pledging to escalate the military buildup.
Only on the previous day, the Pentagon stated it had carried out strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, more than 20 military engagements have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.
Government Justifies Tactics Amid Pressure
The government has encountered growing demands to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, the defense secretary have refused to do so. The administration has defended its efforts as a success, arguing it has prevented drugs from entering US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the limits of legal military action.
Although the administration has stated the campaign is about halting drugs headed to the US, remarks from a senior aide appeared to confirm a broader political objective. In a recently published interview, the senior advisor said the president “wants to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”
This suggests the military campaign may be linked to a strategy to remove Venezuela's sitting leadership.
