Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of Rice specifically in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice finished the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
