Iran Claims Attack on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, During Widespread Military Operations.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and continuing offensive against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is uncertain and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - said they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
IRGC Statement
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was striking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the offensive on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That preceding assault - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted debris fell on a neighborhood in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
