Manchester United Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
