Trump Calls Relatives of Injured National Guard Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
Former President Trump announced on Sunday that he has invited the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the White House.
He added that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Tragic Shooting
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Gatherings across the state have occurred in their remembrance.
Presidential Offer
The president stated he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both individuals of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” Trump informed reporters. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Community Response
Attendees assembled over the past few days at Webster County high school in the state to honor Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s national effort to assist law enforcement in the capital.
Remembering the Soldier
“She was the kind of student that teachers wished for. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that inspired people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her previous school, informed the media. “She was caring, caring and always ready to help others.”
Service arrangements for Sarah are still being arranged.
Legal Steps and Policy Adjustments
Officials have charged a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of homicide and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The incident prompted the government to suspend refugee claims and halt granting entry permits to owners of travel documents.
Status of Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of the city, started his military career in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia leader Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general Bondi informed the program that she aimed to speak to his relatives.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had courage,” the governor told the audience at the service. “Though her time ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
